Joohyung Kim stunned many people by winning the Wyndham Championship over the weekend. Golf fans all across the globe are now looking forward to the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the next stop on the 2022 PGA TOUR.
For the first time in history, the FedEx St. Jude Championship will be held at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. The course is 7,244 yards long with a par of 70.
In 2021, Tony Finau won the annual tournament by beating Cameron Smith in a playoff, finishing 20-under par. Only time will tell whether Finau can become the tournament’s seventh two-time winner.

Best Bets for the FedEx St. Jude Championship in 2022
Rory McIlroy | +1100
Rory McIlroy’s name sticks out among those of his contemporaries in a pretty loaded FedEx St. Jude Championship lineup. The senior golfer has been on a roll recently and has a fantastic chance to continue it at TPC Southwind.
McIlroy has finished T-19 or better in each of his previous eight tournaments, breaking into the top ten on six occasions. If that wasn’t enough, he finished in the top five in five of those tournaments, including a win at the RBC Canadian Open and a second-place finish at the Masters Tournament.
McIlroy has also had several good results at TPC Southwind, including the now-defunct FedEx St. Jude Invitational. He finished 12th or higher in three of his past four starts in the old event, with his best finish coming in 2019 when he finished fourth.
Considering McIlroy’s recent results as well as his history in Memphis, it’s easy to understand why he may wind up making good on his advantageous odds. It’s sometimes best not to overthink things and simply go with the odds-on favorite.
Tony Finau | +2200
And although Finau did not win the FedEx St. Jude Championship last year at TPC Southwind, he should not be underestimated.
Finau has also been on a roll recently. He last fought little over a week ago, winning the whole Rocket Mortgage Classic. He won the 3M Open only a week before that, demonstrating the sort of momentum he’s been developing.
Unfortunately, his academic record isn’t exactly stellar. In four career efforts, he has failed to enter the top 25, with his best finish coming in 27th place at the 2019 FedEx St. Jude Invitational.
Regardless, he is the defending FedEx St. Jude Championship champion for a reason. You can never rule out that kind of experience, so Finau is another player to consider this week.
Cameron Smith TOP5 | +410
Cameron Smith is yet another fascinating golfer to keep a watch on in Memphis later this week.
Smith finished second in last year’s tournament playoff, as previously stated. Such experiences may pique one’s interest, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the 28-year-old get off to a fast start on Thursday.
Smith has been one of the PGA TOUR’s more consistent performances in 2022, finishing T-13 or better in four of his previous six tournaments. His highlight during that period was winning The Open Championship for the first time in his career, and a successful showing this week would be an excellent opportunity to build on that success.
Though he doesn’t have much TPC Southwind experience, Smith did finish sixth in the FedEx St. Jude Invitational there in 2018. It was a while ago, but it still shows that he is familiar with the material.
Cameron Young TOP10 | +230
Cameron Young has less experience than some of his colleagues, but the Scarborough, New York native is a good bet to finish in the top ten in the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Young’s name has been towards the top of the scoreboard in recent months, which has established a trend. He’s finished T-3 or better in five of his previous eight starts, including a second-place finish at The Open Championship and a T-2 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in his most recent two.
He has yet to play at TPC Southwind or participate in the FedEx St. Jude Championship due to his rookie status. If he had that kind of experience, I’d propose a higher grade.
Nonetheless, there’s nothing wrong with Young finishing in the top-10, especially considering +230 odds are available.
