Topps Hobby Boxes
Topps is known for its baseball cards, but its first football set was released in 1951. Bowman dominated the field, and Topps did not release its next set until 1955. After buying out Bowman, Topps took over the market.Topps did not have any real competition in the market until 1989 when Score and Proset emerged.
The Topps base set is considered to be one of the lower end sets in the realm of football card collecting. The base set does not really have much of a following, even less so than baseball, with most people collecting the Chrome set or collecting Bowman rookies cards. With that being said, Topps has made it more interesting in 2009 by adding manufactured letter autographs of the rookie cards, a 100 card National Chicle insert set, and an insert set of select team cheerleaders (if that is your thing). The base set includes 440 cards with 110 of them being devoted to the rookies. The 2009 Topps set has a simple, clean look to it and we recommend you give it a look, as it is a decent looking base set.
